The Department of History at the George Washington University invites applications for the Elmer Louis Kayser Chair in Modern British Imperial History (post-1750). The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarly publishing and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the history of the British Empire and its constituent parts (i.e. South Asia, colonial Africa, the Middle East, Australasia, etc.). For specialization, candidates may cover related subfields, such as race, gender, peace, war, environment, law, capital, labor, colonialism, anticolonialism, decolonization, and postcolonialism, as well as their own particular interests and areas of expertise. 

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in History, or a closely related field, with a distinguished record of scholarship reflected in peer-reviewed publications and grants/fellowships, excellence in teaching as demonstrated by student evaluations, peer reviews, or supervisor’s comments, and a record of excellence in and ongoing commitment to service.  Applicants must currently hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
