FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Biochemistry or a closely related field (e.g. Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology).

Candidates should also possess:

  • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • (Ideally) at least two (2) years’ experience in teaching Biochemistry to undergraduate students
  • Research expertise in basic medical sciences or translational research
  • Specialisation in any of the main areas of Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics or Molecular Biology

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • (Ideally) at least two (2) years’ experience with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) or small group learning methods
  • (Ideally) at least two (2) years’ experience teaching within medical sciences programmes
  • Proficiency in the application of Molecular/Genomic/Bioinformatic methods to address basic medical science questions and/or expertise in metabolism

Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Coordinating undergraduate programmes, and providing academic advising and supervision for undergraduate students
  • Providing advice, guidance and supervision for postgraduate research
  • Fostering intra/inter Faculty/Campus teaching and research networks
  • Attracting external research and development funding
  • Serving on Committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels
  • Participating in the design and development of courses, teaching materials and/or programmes
  • Establishing research programmes that lead to publications in refereed journals
  • Contributing to the Department’s curriculum
  • Engaging in community outreach initiatives
  • Collaborating locally, regionally and internationally with colleagues in research and co-curricular activities
  • Participating in Departmental and Faculty seminars

Personal Attributes

The Campus places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates should also:

  • Be able to engage in team work with colleagues in teaching and research
  • Have interest in the use of virtual and online Anatomy teaching tools
  • Be familiar with Problem-based learning (PBL) or small group learning methods
  • Be able to complement the Department’s research agenda
  • Have an interest in medical education research
