Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Communication Studies, Media Studies or a closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
- Ideally at least three (3) years teaching experience in Communication Studies at tertiary level
- A good record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Expertise and research interest in any of the following:
- PR/Advertising
- Digital Media
- Media Industries, Mass Media & Society
- New Media and Persuasion
- Evidence of a firm grasp of current theoretical discussions in Communication
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- Master’s degree in Communication Studies, Media Studies or a closely related discipline
- Experience of teaching and supervising projects at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Research output relevant to the Caribbean and/or the global south
The following would be considered assets:
- Experience in curriculum revision and course design at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
- Experience in managing and/or coordinating academic programmes at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
- Experience in collaborative and/or interdisciplinary teaching and research
Special Responsibilities
- Researching and high-quality publishing
- Teaching a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Communications
- Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects
- Assessing and examining student work
- Serving on committees at the Department, Faculty, and University levels
- Participating in the design and development of courses, teaching materials and/or programmes
- Advising undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Engaging in community outreach initiatives
Contributing to the administrative functioning of the Department, and to the cultural and intellectual life of the University
- Collaborating with colleagues in teaching, administration and research projects
