LECTURER IN HUMAN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Nutrition, Dietetics or a closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
- Ideally at least three (3) years’ teaching experience at a recognized tertiary institution
- Experience in teaching courses related to Dietetics and Normal & Community Nutrition
- Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Demonstrated experience in the support of professional organizations in the discipline
- Proficiency in at least one (1) of the following areas:
- Medical Nutrition Therapy
- Intuitional Dietetics and Nutrition
- Normal and Community Nutrition
- Demonstrated proficiency in and commitment to high-quality classroom instruction, new course development and contributing to programme development and evaluation
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- Advanced level training in Food Systems
- Advanced level training in Community Nutrition and Institutional Nutrition
- Experience in teaching courses related to food systems
- Extensive experience engaging in community-related nutrition research
- Experience in teaching courses at the postgraduate level
- Experience in successful supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Experience working with local and regional public health administrators
- Experience of collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, field research and on-line teaching
- Prior success in managing, coordinating and supervising a student-run training facility/kitchen
- A record of training and experience in engaging and supporting diverse groups in education, research and practice in Food Systems and Normal & Community Nutrition
- Prior success in the analysis of nutrition data at the community or national level
The following would be considered assets:
- Training in Food Consumption Surveys and Analysis
- Experience in undertaking and/or analysing Food Consumption surveys at the national or sub-national level
- A good track record of developing thematic research programmes and a history of attracting research funding
- Experience in applying research findings to satisfy industry needs
- Experience in teaching courses in Food Systems at the tertiary level
- Experience in revision of existing curriculum or development of new curriculum to keep abreast of development and innovation in the area of expertise
- Practical skills in Community Nutrition and Food Systems
- Proficiency in both face-to-face and online teaching
Candidates must be Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists.
