Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a MSc or equivalent or higher postgraduate qualification from a recognized university, which should be in Oral Biology, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine or a closely related field.

Candidates should also possess:

  • A good record of research and publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
  • Considerable teaching experience in the field of Oral Biology at an undergraduate level with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Oral Anatomy and Histology
  • Craniofacial and Dental Development
  • Oral Physiology & Biochemistry
  • Oral Microbiology
  • Cariology
  • Tooth Surface Loss

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning or equivalent
  • Experience in the supervision or mentoring of research students
  • Clinical experience in Dentistry
  • Experience in the supervision of undergraduate students in a clinical setting

Candidates must be registered or be able to be registered with the Dental Council of Trinidad and Tobago.

Special Responsibilities

  • Working closely with staff in the Faculty of Medical Sciences to provide quality leadership in teaching and curriculum development
  • Teaching undergraduate students and vocational trainees
  • Undertaking clinical supervision
  • Participating in clinically oriented problem-based learning activities
  • Supporting University assessment and examination activities
  • Conducting impactful research and publications
  • Participating in teaching and supervision of vocational trainees when required
  • Participating in administrative duties as required

Personal Attributes

  • Be able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Possess strong patient management skills
  • Be able to relate well with colleagues and support staff
  • Be able to take on any responsibilities incumbent with the post
