Course Number and Title: PHL281H1S – Bioethics
Course Description: An introduction to the study of moral and legal problems in medical practice and in biomedical research; the development of health policy. Topics include: concepts of health and disease, patient rights, informed consent, allocation of scarce resources, euthanasia, abortion, genetic and reproductive technologies, human research, and mental health.
Estimated Course Enrollment: 300 Students
Estimated TA Support: 560 Hours
Class Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:00–13:00

Salary: $8,489.67 Sessional Lecturer I; $8,869.25 Sessional Lecturer I Long Term; $9,085.58 Sessional Lecturer II; $9,301.90 Sessional Lecturer III

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in philosophy; strong academic record and professional promise; ongoing research and scholarly publications in the field; relevant and recent teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who have clearly demonstrated teaching excellence in the subject matter.
Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; and, supervising teaching assistants.
