Course Number and Title: PHL356H1 – Philosophy of Physics


Course Description:
Introduction to philosophical issues which arise in modern physics, especially in relativity and quantum mechanics. This course will be accessible to students without a significant background in physics, but with an interest in the philosophical challenges that modern physics poses.

Sessional Dates of Appointment
: January 1st, 2023 – April 30th, 2023

Salary: $8,489.67 Sessional Lecturer I; $8,869.25 Sessional Lecturer I Long Term; $9,085.58 Sessional Lecturer II; $9,301.90 Sessional Lecturer III


Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.


Minimum Qualifications
: Ph.D. in philosophy with specialization in Philosophy of Science; strong academic record and professional promise; ongoing research and scholarly publications in the field; relevant and recent teaching experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who have clearly demonstrated teaching excellence in the subject matter.


Description of Duties
: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; and, supervising teaching assistants.
